'Thu demo: demand LIVING WAGE 4 Birkbeck College cleaners&caterers 5pm-630@college Open Evening@Royal Nat'l Hotel 38-51 Bedford Wy WC1H0DG'
Please make and bring your own placards!
Birkbeck College now pays its fatcat boss ('Master' David Latchman) over £200,000 a year, after several big pay rises. Yet he insists on enriching private cleaning and catering company shareholders with our hard-earned tax money and student fees. The shareholders get even richer by paying poverty wages - £5.73 at Birkbeck, with no job security.
Demand justice and the London Living Wage! £7.45 plus fair annual leave, sick pay and union recognition. Demand in-house, secure, decently paid jobs for everyone who works in higher education, especially at Birkbeck College, which markets itself on building better lives for working people. We say that's nonsense, unless and until it scraps poverty wages under its own roof.
See http://www.livingwageemployer.org.uk/the_living_wage.html and http://www.bbk.ac.uk/unison/local/living for details.
